BLACK LIVES MATTER
I watched the video. I watched the entire video.
I watched a white police officer take the life of a black man.
I watched the white police officer's face. I saw that he didn't care. I saw the cruelty. I saw that he knew he was hurting George Floyd. I saw that he knew he was killing George Floyd. I saw that he didn't care. I saw that he was taking pleasure in his actions.
I felt helpless. I felt angry. I felt scared.
The hardest part was knowing that what I was feeling was nothing compared to what people of color were feeling. And I became ill.

I was raised by two Christian Liberals. They did not teach me to not see color. They taught me to see color. They taught me that the experience of my friends of color was different than mine. They taught me that this was not fair. They taught me to recognize my privilege. And they taught me to extend it in every way possible to those who did not have it. They taught me to see the difference. They taught me to speak up. And they taught me to do something about it.

I want you to be able to walk down a street without fear. I want you to be able to drive without fear. I want you to be able to live in your home without fear.
I am political. Every vote I cast includes a careful consideration of your best interests.
I am on social media. I will post about racism. I will block the racists. I will report the racists. I will share your posts. I will read your posts. I will not scroll past articles, images, and posts about your struggles.
I will bear witness. I will be uncomfortable and appalled. I will share what I find not to drive views but to expose the killers and the racists.
I will say the names of the victims. They are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends, lovers... They cannot be forgotten.
I will speak up and act up when I see racism happening.
I will not support businesses with racist practices.
I will walk with you, ride with you, march with you, cry with you...

I will diligently search for ways to support you. I will continually seek to educate myself on your experience. I will strive for empathy with meaningful action.
